
This B-29, S/N 44-86408 "Haggerty's Hag," was one of the 531 B-29s manufactured by the Glen L. Martin Company in Omaha, Nebraska. It was delivered to the USAAF on 6 August 1945. From 1948 through 1953 the plane was assigned to various units within the Strategic Air Command. In 1953 the plane was assigned to Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah. The plane remained at Dugway until 1983 when it was disassembled and shipped to the museum. Reassembly and external restoration took three years, interior restoration continued until 1997.
The propellers of a C-130 frame Haggarty's Hag. The large aircraft behind the B-29 is a Douglas C-124C "Globemaster II" delivered to the USAF in 1955. The object at the right under the wing of the B-29 is a Mark 6 Nuclear Bomb. The Mark 6 weighed 8,500 lbs, was ten feet eight inches long and was five feet one inch in diameter. The Mark 6 was removed from the strategic arsenal in 1957.
