Treasurer Change

Carl Klenk has stepped down as treasurer due to personal reasons. Paul Newhouse has reluctantly agreed to step in and fill the gap. Thanks, Paul!

Dues Payable Immediately

Speaking of Paul, he reminds us that dues are past due at this point in the year, so if you haven't paid yours, bring your checkbook to the business meeting and look him up.

To quote the bylaws:
ARTICLE IX - DUES AND ASSESSMENTS

Section 2: Yearly dues of $24 for Regular, and $18 for Senior members are due and payable on November 1 of the year preceding the calendar year to which they apply. Dues are delinquent by the business meeting in February and subject to a $4/month penalty, in addition to the normal prorated amount for the remainder of the year. . . .

O Scale News:

From the O Scale Trainmaster:

Well, gang-
Progress! Turn-out is up, the signaling system looks feasible, the yard throats have been massaged, and some activity has begun on our scenery and backdrop. I have seen a bridge kit that looks big enough to cross the gorge in the rear of the layout. I think we're worrying our brothers across the aisle. . . GOOD! Let's keep it up.

A few things I'd like to discuss at the February meeting:

Seth has expressed a desire to train some of us how to work the HO control panels; do we have any takers besides me?

How extensive do we want to make the signal system? Do we continue to use only Atlas parts, or shall we try using the same detectors that the HO layout uses for parts commonality? From what I've seen of the Atlas system, it shouldn't be difficult to use another detector with the Atlas brain boxes.
Tied to that:
I have heard suggestions that we bring the block occupancy information from the signal system back to the panel, much like the HO layout does. Doing so makes a certain amount of sense in light of our chronically understaffed condition during shows. There is no conceptual problem here, just the practical exercise of drilling holes and pulling cable. What say you all?

I look forward to seeing you all on the Fourth.

General Hobby and Prototype News

Museum report

Bob Johnson has long been wandering around the railroad scene taking in the sights and exploring museums, and then reporting on them for those of us who stick a little closer to home.
This time he reports on the remains of the northern California logging industry with a photo essay.
