Snowplow operations were often conducted in remote terrain during the worst weather.
On the Union Pacific the plow did not normally operate without support equipment for both
the plow crew and the plow itself. Dining and bunk cars accompanied the plow to provide
food and rest for the crew while a relief crew, also with the plow train, was operating the plow.
